Howard Ashman, the author of Little Shop of Horrors, relies on the show’s style to generate comedy. With this idea, he asks for “simplicity, honesty, and sweetness.” Using these thoughts, the lighting design adheres to the basics. The basic box of crayons inspires the color choices. Simple shapes will be used for texture on the scenery and actors. The key angles will be side and back, highlighting the figure and accenting the shapes of both people and plants.
